Agriculture Students of CGC Jhanjeri Gain Practical Knowledge
Chandigarh Group of Colleges Jhanjeri organised a visit to village Chunni Kalan for the students of B.Sc. Agriculture. The purpose of the visit was to provide an opportunity to the students for getting practical knowledge about the subject of Insect Ecology & Integrated Pest Management. The students were taken to the nearby ponds to study about the Pond Ecosystem and Terrestrial Ecosystem. While studying Pond Ecosystem, the students were explained about the flora and fauna of pond. They collected the samples of pond water, pond mud, algae, floating hydrophytes and submerged hydrophytes. They also acquired knowledge about the eutrophication in water bodies and also identified various weeds. While studying the Terrestrial Ecosystem, students measured various parameters like air temperature at ground level, at one meter above ground level, soil profile, humidity, soil temperature, soil pH etc and collected soil samples for estimation of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. They also studied the canopy, height of trees, number of plant species at ground level, tree species, soil microorganisms, animals, birds and human impact at the particular site. S.Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC says that the course of B.Sc. Agriculture at CGC Jhanjeri is a dream project for him. Since he himself belongs to a family of agriculturists, he wants CGC Jhanjeri to be known for running this course in the best possible manner in the whole state of Punjab. Dr. G.D. Bansal, Director General says that CGC Jhanjeri is known for possessing excellent labs in the Department of Agriculture. For giving practical knowledge to the students, their visits to various agricultural fields are arranged from time to time.
