B. Tech Civil Engineering


About the Course

Being one of the oldest engineering subjects, Civil Engineering forms the very basis for planning, design and execution of structuring works. It expands across several engineering fields and focuses on infrastructure which includes Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, and Tunnels etc. As a civil engineer, you are responsible for planning and design of various projects, including construction and maintenance of the project. The planning includes site investigation, adaptability, feasibility and solution oriented approach to complications that may occur during the designing of structure.

Civil engineering is one of the major disciplines in the present scenario. It offers numerous career opportunities and areas to discover with special chances with the government departments. Prestigious projects such as express highways, Railway projects and large dams including bridges and Transportation/Traffic in India and abroad are the key opportunities for anyone planning a career in this field. Civil engineering offers several majors in designing, supervision and construction activities in various projects.
 

Eligibility Criteria

10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects; Chemistry, Biology, Bio-technology, Technical vocational subject are eligible to pursue B. Tech course. Students who have passed diploma in any engineering trade from the Punjab State Board of Technical Education or SantLongowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) Longowal or from any other State Board of Technical Education or two years certificate course from SLIET are also eligible to pursue the bachelor’s course in any stream.
 

Admission Procedure

Admission is carried out through JEE (Main) /marks obtained in 10+2. 66.6% seats form the State Quota which filled by IKG PTU while 33.3% seats in each discipline are reserved for Management Quota filled by the college. Admissions to all seats are made on the basis of merit of JEE (Main)/ 10+2marks. Online registration for management quota seats can be done on our website. www.cgc.ac.in
 

Lateral Entry to Second Year

a) Passed Diploma examination from an AICTE approved Institution; With at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in appropriate branch of Engineering/ Technology.

b) Passed B.Sc. degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed XII standard with mathematics as a subject.
 
c) Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream, shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing and engineering Mechanics of the first year Engineering Programme along with the second year subjects.

He / She must fulfill the conditions mentioned in Punjab Government Notification No. 35/44/95-fT (2]/978 dated 21.3.2003 incorporated in Information Brochure of IKG PTU. He / She must fulfill the requirements laid down by IKG PTU. He/ She is a citizen of India. 20% seats of first year intake of each branch are filled in second year out of which 33.3% seats are reserved as management quota which are filled directly by the college.
