B. Tech Mechanical Engineering


About the Course

Mechanical Engineering focuses on the design, construction, installation, commissioning and operation of industries, power stations, engines, and machines with utmost precision and infrastructural management. Being one of the oldest and the broadest disciplines of engineering, Mechanical engineers have always been in demand due to their ability to be the forefront for technological innovation. They continue to lead the world and make significant contributions in manufacturing, energy generation, transportation, waste management, health and environment.
 

Career Prospects

Mechanical engineering has proven to be the highest employment generators among all the engineering streams and it is due to this widespread application of machinery and technology that mechanical engineers can find employment almost everywhere. A mechanical engineering graduate has the option to choose a career in Automation, Production, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Reverse Engineering, Power Generation, Nuclear Reactors, Refrigerator & Air-conditioning Equipment, Aircraft Engines, Electrical and Transportation Equipment, Refineries and Automobiles manufacturing Industries.
 

Eligibility Criteria

10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects; Chemistry, Biology, Bio-technology, Technical vocational subject are eligible to pursue B. Tech course. Students who have passed diploma in any engineering trade from the Punjab State Board of Technical Education or SantLongowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) Longowal or from any other State Board of Technical Education or two years certificate course from SLIET are also eligible to pursue the bachelor’s course in any stream.
 

Admission Procedure

Admission is carried out through JEE (Main) /marks obtained in 10+2. 66.6% seats form the State Quota while 33.3% seats are reserved for Management Quota. Admissions to all seats are made on the basis of merit of JEE (Main)/10+2marks. Online registration for management quota seats can be done on our website. www.cgc.ac.in
 

Lateral Entry to Second Year

a) Passed Diploma examination from an AICTE approved Institution; With at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in appropriate branch of Engineering/ Technology.

b) Passed B.Sc. degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed XII standard with mathematics as a subject.
 
c) Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream, shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing and engineering Mechanics of the first year Engineering Programme along with the second year subjects.

The candidate must possess a good moral character. He / She must fulfill the conditions mentioned in Punjab Government Notification No. 35/44/95-fT (2]/978 dated 21.3.2003 incorporated in Information Brochure of PTU. He / She must fulfill the requirements laid down by PTU. He/ She is a citizen of India. 20% seats of 2 year intake of each branch are filled in second year out of which 33.3% seats are reserved as management quota which are filled directly by the college.
