Win 15 Gold Medals in ATC Organised by 23 Punjab Battalion NCC Ropar
Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Jhanjeri is running a full fledged Unit of NCC in which the students carry out their activities with great enthusiasm. These cadets are given regular training by their NCC Incharge. The college has got a sanctioned strength of 35 students for each year of this 3 year programme. As such, among these 105 cadets, along with boys, a number of girls have also opted for NCC. Attending regular parades, celebrating Republic Day, Independence Day, giving a formal reception to all the dignitaries visiting the college etc. are permanent features of their training. The NCC Unit of CGC Jhanjeri works under the guidance & supervision of 23 Punjab Battalion, Ropar. This Battalion organizes Annual Training Camp (ATC) every year. NCC students from all the schools and colleges under this Battalion take active part in this camp. Annual Training Camp-121 was organized from 19.08.2018 to 28.08.2018. A total of 464 students from various schools & colleges of Punjab took part in this camp including 27 male cadets & 8 girls from CGC Jhanjeri. All these participants were categorized into five companies. Keeping in view the caliber of CGC students, the command of four of these five companies was given to the NCC cadets of CGC Jhanjeri. These commanders included Senior Under Officer Paramvir Shekhawat, Corporal Kajal Bakshi, Cadet Vijay Singh and Under Officer Ashish Kumar Sharma.
In this camp, all the cadets were taught basic military subjects like Map Reading, Compass Reading, Firing with .22 Rifle 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle and Light Machine Gun, Drill, Finding your position on Map etc. They were also briefed about some Personality Development Skills. A number of cultural, sports & Parade related competitions were organized during this camp.In these competitions the students of CGC Jhanjeri won a record number of 15 gold medals. Cadet Shweta Sharma won Gold Medal in Drill, the group consisting of Lalit Singh, Abhishek Kumar Katoch, Sagar, Rajat Kapri, Shubham Panara & Arjun took part in cultural events and group song. They won gold for Best Group Song. Cadet Shivam Tyagi won Gold in Inter Company Volley Ball while Manpreet Kaur and Ruchi Mishra bagged Gold in Basketball. Kajal Bakshi was awarded gold medal for his duty as Company Havaldar Major (CHM) of Alpha Company, Paramvir Shekhawat for CHM duty of Bravo Company, Vijay Singh for CHM duty of Delta Company. Ashish Kumar Sharma was awarded Gold for being overall best cadet.
Congratulating all the NCC cadets as well as their Incharge, S.Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC said that NCC training makes the students highly disciplined persons of the society. Such camps teach the students leadership skills and comradeship. Dr. G.D.Bansal, Director General said that apart from these students themselves being highly patriotic, they induce feeling of patriotism in others also. He expressed confidence that most of these NCC students will achieve their ambition of starting their career as officers in Indian Army.
