NAVY WING cadets of NCC unit of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, alongwith a large number of other students & staff members celebrated the NAVY DAY. On this occasion the NAVY WING cadets display the models of INS VIKRAMADITYA (aircraft carrier) and INS MYSORE D60 (Destroyer) possessed by Indian Navy. After the arrival of the chief guest S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC, the students displayed their first model that is INS VIKRAMADITYA , Cadet Priya explained the details of the model. She told that INS Vikramaditya (“Brave as the Sun”) is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier and the flagship of the Indian Navy, which entered into service in 2013. She has been renamed in honour of Vikramaditya, a legendary emperor of India. Finally she told that the moto of INS VKRAMADITYA is “Strike far, Strike sure”. After this the model of INS MYSORE D60 was displayed and the details of the model were explained by Cadet Jayant Rana in which he told INS Mysore was built at Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai. Her keel was laid down in February 1991 and she was launched on 4 June 1993. Sea trials began in the Arabian Sea in March 1999, and she was commissioned on 2 June 1999 by then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Her first CO was Captain Rajiv Dhamdhere. He explained the motto of INS MYSORE D60 that is “ Always fearless”.
Speaking on the occasion S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal appreciated he hard work of the students in preparation of these models and he motivated them to join the INDIAN ARMED FORCES. Dr. G. D. Bansal, Director-General congratulated Cadets Shubham Sharma & Cadet Hitesh for fabricating of these models, made within short period of less than a month.
