It’s been more than a year since when vicious COVID-19 virus hit the world & changed our lives. Just when we thought that the world has started healing and things are returning to normal, the second wave knocked the nation even harder with a 4 times surge in the number of cases and an increased fatality rate.

Youth, middle age, old age – everyone has been affected by the pandemic in some way or the other. But the group that has been significantly affected amid all the volatility and uncertainties is ‘Youth’. They are struggling with anxiety, depression and lack of motivation as the future seems to be in jeopardy. Isolation, which is the need of the hour in this pandemic situation, is resulting in a feeling of loneliness among students.

Understanding the fragility of the moment, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri’s CGC FIT Connect Club under the aegis of the Department of Student Welfare (DSW) organized a 3-Day Wellness Retreat Program on Peace of Mind – An Era of Hope & Transformation. “An Inner Journey of Rejuvenation” was the theme of the Wellness Program.

Day 1 of the 3-Day Wellness Retreat Program virtually hosted Prabhu Gauranga Das – a monk, motivational speaker and meditation expert who has transformed various lives through his activities and preachings. He counselled students on stress management, spiritual awakening and sustainable living. He also enlightened students about – how to build a positive attitude amid pandemic, secrets of career growth and more.

Day 2 of the Wellness Program brought our students an epic yoga workshop by ‘The Yoga Girl’ – Ms. Chetna Joshi, who is a yoga trainer, owner and founder of Aaradhyam Yoga Studio, TEDx speaker, Art of Living teacher and MTV Roadies participant. “The novel coronavirus especially attacks the respiratory system, and breathing exercise like ‘pranayama’ can help you (students) strengthen your system” – said Ms. Joshi during the session with students. She taught CGC Jhanjeri students various breathing exercises and yoga poses namely Sukhasana, Balasana, Paschimottanasana and Ananda Balasana.

Day 3 gave our students an opportunity to have words of wisdom by Ms. Paulomi Mukherjee, Senior Faculty – The Art of Living. As uncertainties caused by pandemic have taken a toll on student’s body and mind, she taught them about unique tools and techniques which can help combat stress accumulated in our daily life. Through yoga asanas, breathing techniques and meditation, she made students feel light, energetic and enthusiastic.

CGC Jhanjeri’s primary purpose of conducting the 3-Day Wellness Retreat Program was to reduce depression, stress and anxiety that are rising among students during the lockdown and inspire purpose, strength and resilience.
